I observe things a lot but I don't use references at the time I'm drawing
I use references when I have to draw something really difficult
I do drawing exercises with references but I don't use them on actual artworks
I use references for artwork from time to time- it helps my work being more realistic
I actually can't draw a thing without reference ;_;

I actually like looking at a picture and draw the exact same thing, but sometimes I look at many pictures of a character to memorize all details, so then I'll be able to draw him in any way/pose I want
